Situation Analysis
Neighborhood Reinvestment Network member, Centro
Campesino Farmworker Center (Centro), Inc in Florida
City, Florida, wanted to bolster its image to match the
size of its organization and its aspirations to be a
leading resource on redevelopment in low income
communities in the state of Florida. BMI was asked to
work with Centro during the restoration and rebuilding
effort after the rash of hurricanes in 2004.
Strategy & Implementation
BMI developed a two-pronged strategy: first providing
strategic advice and implementation of re-active
initiatives and events; and second developing proactive
initiatives to differentiate Centro from other south
Florida community organizations. The strategy was based
on the theme: the knowledge source, focusing on Centro’s
innovations and solutions.
Activities to date have included advising Centro on how
to communicate with the media and implement their
communications through media relations. BMI assisted
Centro in telling the Centro story in the words they
feel suit their presentation best. BMI also produced the
press release announcing Centro’s south Florida
restoration initiative.
Results
In the first two months of the campaign, BMI
successfully helped Centro begin targeting the south
Florida media with value-adding issues, which are
starting to change the perception of Centro as a
provider of social services by putting it on a
trajectory to the status of policy advisor in the
national discourse on Latina issues.
